He's One of Our Own

There's a famous football chant reserved for homegrown players that are brought up through a soccer club's ranks from a young age.   And the Carolina RailHawks have a long tradition of signing players such as Caleb Norkus and Zack Schilawski who grew up in the area.

But did you know that one of our current RailHawks players actually used to hang out in the Depot with Triangle Soccer Fanatics?

Before he pulled on the orange #5, Nazmi Albadawi was a RailHawks supporter...

I was in the Depot all the time when I was younger! I came to a lot of RailHawks games... And my favorite memory is probably when Kupono scored a penalty kick and ran to the stands and celebrated with me. I was 14 or so at the time and thought it was the coolest thing ever!
— Nazmi Albadawi

TSF dug back in the archives and found the highlight Nazmi is referring to.  Watch the clip below and look for the young kid in a black shirt wearing a Hawaiian lei around his neck (TSF's tailgate that night had a Hawaiian theme).  That's the guy that would go on to be named your TSF Fan Favorite player of the year in 2014.

So next time Albadawi scores, you can join the Depot in singing...

He's one of our own,
He's one of our own,
Nazmi!
He's one of our own.
